Last Friday I woke at five, wore a clean shirt, and went to a 6 am show of a big release near Dilsukhnagar. The hero is not my favourite, but my younger brother is a fan and begged me to take him.
The hall was full. There were flower garlands on the screen before the film began, and a man in the second row was holding up a cut out of the hero that was bigger than my brother.
I expected to be irritated. Instead, when the title card came, the noise in that hall was the loudest thing I have heard in a cinema, and I caught myself clapping with everyone.
The film was average. The crowd was not.
The ticket cost 250 rupees and tea afterwards cost 20. We got home at nine and my mother asked how it was. My brother said it was the best day of his life. I said it was okay, and she did not believe me.
Is it just the crowd that makes it worth it, or is the film also supposed to matter? I am still deciding.
