My cousin's wedding was 10 days away and I had nothing to wear. So I
ordered online. 3 shirts, 2 of them in cream, 1 in light grey. All from
the same site, all 4 stars. The photos looked good. Soft, a bit of a shine,
nice collar. The reviews said true to size. The grey one arrived in 3 days.
I opened the packet and I heard it before I felt it. It crackled. Like
a bag of chips. I put my hand on it and it felt slippery and hot.
I wore it for 5 minutes and my neck was already sweating. In February. Cream one
was fine, the other cream one was 2 sizes too big, even though I picked medium.
That's 1 good shirt out of 3 and a refund process that took 9 days to
complete. On day 6 I gave up and went to Sultan Bazaar myself. Took 40 minutes.
The shopkeeper pulled out a shirt, rubbed the cloth between his fingers, and said,
this is cotton. I rubbed it too. It was cotton. I paid 700 and
tried it on right there in the shop. It fit, and I didn't have
to wait for a courier who calls only once and then disappears. Groceries online
is fine by me. Vegetables arrive in better shape than I choose myself. But
cloth is something I need to touch. My fingers know before my eyes do.
I still own the grey shirt. It's my painting shirt now, which seems a fair job.
Next wedding I'll go to the shop first and skip the 4 star reviews completely.
