My brain switches on around 11 am. Before that I'm a very polite
zombie. At my old job in Toronto I started at 10 and nobody
cared. Here the login time is 9. So I sit in front of
my laptop from 9 to 11 and answer emails with one word. Yes.
Noted. Will do. Then I read them again at noon and wonder who wrote them. Nights are
the opposite. At 11 pm I'm sharp. I clean the kitchen, fix my budget sheet, reply to everyone.
Last Friday I finished a report at 1:40 am that I'd put off for 2 weeks.
It took 50 minutes. In the day it would've taken me a whole afternoon and a headache.
Then I lay in bed feeling proud and couldn't sleep until 3. That's the price. My mother
thinks it's laziness. She's up at 5 for fajr and has half her day done by 8.
She calls at 7 every morning to ask if I'm awake. I let it
ring and call back at 11. By then she's already had 2 rounds of
tea and a long chat with the neighbour. I don't argue. She's been up
before the birds for 40 years and I won't win. I'm trying one thing.
Alarm at 7:30 instead of 8:15, and a cold shower before I touch my phone.
Day 4 now. It works until about 9, then I'm useless again, so no real change.
If anyone has a trick that really works, tell me. I've tried coffee, sunlight, and
a loud song. The song was the worst. My neighbour knocked on the door at 7:35.
