My rule is 3 episodes. Nothing less, nothing more. Then I decide if the show gets a chance. It
started with Breaking Bad. Everyone I knew had seen it, and I was the only one who hadn't. I
watched episode 1 in 2019 and switched it off after 20 minutes. A man in his underwear in the desert.
I told my friends it was boring. They looked at me like I'd insulted their grandmother. One
of them, Kamal, locked the door and made me watch 2 more. He sat next to me.
By the end of episode 3 I was hooked. I finished the whole thing in 9 days.
I told my manager I had a stomach bug. I did, kind of, from the snacks. That's where
the rule comes from. Episode 1 lies, episode 3 usually tells the truth. The rule isn't perfect. I
gave a crime show from last year 3 episodes and hated all of them. Episode 3 was the worst.
Everybody whispered, and somebody walked slowly towards a door for 6 minutes. I dropped it. My cousin said, but it
gets good in episode 7. I said, that's too late. He's probably right, and I'm still not going back to
check, because I have 3 other shows waiting. I keep a list on my phone of the shows I've started.
Right now there are 11. 7 of them are stuck at episode 2 because I fell asleep
during the intro. I watch at night after dinner with a plate of fruit, on the sofa in
the hall. My mother comes in around the second episode and asks who's the guy with the gun.
