The pattern looks the same in a lot of homes.
Nobody argues about the home loan EMI, because that amount is fixed and everyone knows it is coming.
The fights start with the bills that move. The electricity bill jumps in summer when the AC runs every night,
the phone bill has an extra charge nobody remembers,
and the credit card total is somehow higher than what both people think they spent.
Then one question, "where did this come from?", turns into a full argument about who is careless and who is a miser.
Debt makes it worse,
because a credit card balance carried over month after month feels like a secret even when it isn't one.
What seems to help is boring. Sitting down once a month, same day, with every bill and the bank statement open,
and going through it line by line without blaming anyone. Writing down what is coming next month too, school fees,
a wedding gift, the car insurance, so nothing shows up as a surprise.
Keeping a fixed savings amount that goes out on salary day before anything else,
so savings aren't whatever is left at the end. None of it is clever.
But a lot of couples skip it because it feels unromantic,
and then they have the same fight every month over a bill that was always going to come.
Ten minutes a month is a lot cheaper than that.
