My phone started getting warm in my shirt pocket last summer. In Jeddah that's hard to notice.
It's 40 degrees outside, everything is warm. But this was different, like a hot cup against my chest.
I took it out in the lift one morning and it was properly hot. I was only reading messages.
I told myself it's the weather and put it back. That was my first mistake.
2 weeks later it shut off at 38 percent in the middle of a call with my boss.
He said, are you there? I said yes, then the screen went black and I was not there.
I borrowed a colleague's phone to call back and said my battery died. He asked how old mine was.
It was 3 years and a bit. He just nodded like a doctor and said, that's the battery.
The shop in Balad changed it in 20 minutes for 90 riyals. The man held up the old one.
It was puffed up a little at the edges. He said another month and it would've been a problem.
I felt a bit sick looking at it. I'd been sleeping with that thing next to my pillow.
Now the phone stays cool even in the car. I can use maps without a charger plugged in.
If your phone feels warm for no reason, check it. Don't wait for the 38 percent shutdown like me.
Look at the battery health in settings. If it says under 80, go to a shop.
Don't buy the cheapest battery in the market either. My friend did that and it lasted 4 months.
I keep the old one in a drawer. The shop guy gave it back, I don't know why.
