Our inverter battery died last week and I had to buy a new one.
I know nothing about batteries. I went to a small shop in Kukatpally.
3 batteries on the shelf, all black, from 7,500 to 14,000. I asked which one is
best. The shopkeeper, an older man with reading glasses on his forehead, said, depends. Depends on what?
He said, what do you run on it? So I told him. 2 fans,
4 lights, a WiFi router, sometimes the TV. He nodded and took a pen.
He drew the whole thing on the back of a bill. Fans here, lights
here, how many hours. There were 6 people waiting behind me. One man sighed
loudly. The shopkeeper ignored him completely. He said, you don't need the 14,000 one,
the middle one is plenty. I braced for the usual push. It never came.
He even said the 14,000 one is meant for shops. I bought the middle
one for 9,800. He stuck a label on top with the date for the warranty.
He also said to check the water level every 3 months. I put that in my
phone. My brother in Dubai laughed when I told him. He said shopkeepers there don't do that.
The battery has been running fine for 6 days. We
had a 2 hour cut on Tuesday and nobody noticed. I
went back yesterday to buy distilled water and he remembered my
name. I never told him my name. Turns out it
was on the bill. I still felt like a regular. I'll
be going back to him for anything electrical from now on.
