There is a difference between one person managing the money and one person controlling it.
Managing is fine. Plenty of couples decide that one of them is better with numbers, so that person pays the bills,
tracks the savings and deals with the bank.
Both still know what is coming in and going out, and both can spend without asking permission for every small thing.
Controlling looks different. One partner keeps the debit cards and the passwords. The other has to ask for money for vegetables,
for a doctor visit, for their own mother's birthday gift, and then explain where every note went.
A fixed amount handed over in cash, a receipt asked for after every grocery trip, a phone check after every payment.
Even a working partner can end up handing over the whole salary on the 1st and getting pocket money back.
Sometimes the person who earns says it is their salary, so it is their decision.
Sometimes the person who doesn't earn has no idea how much is in the account at all.
It often starts small and nobody notices,
until one day the other person realises they can't buy a 300 rupee thing without a conversation first.
Family elders often see it and say nothing, because in their eyes that is simply how the house has always run.
Where do you think managing ends and controlling begins?
