6:15 in the morning. The alarm hasn't even gone off yet and the drilling starts.
First that metal screeching sound, then the hammering, then the cement mixer joins in.
If you live next to a construction site you know exactly what I mean.
Your day doesn't start with tea anymore, it starts with a headache.
I'm not against construction. People need houses, the city needs roads and metro lines,
and the workers have to finish on time too. But heavy machines at dawn, a few metres from
people's bedrooms? That's not progress, that's just a nuisance.
Sleep goes first. I read one study where almost everyone living near a site said the noise
ruined their sleep, and most of them said it woke them up.
The annoying part is that by the rules, night is 10 pm to 6 am, and homes are supposed to get lower
noise limits in those hours. So a 6 am start is technically allowed. It doesn't feel allowed when a pile driver is going outside your window.
Nobody's asking them to stop building. Just keep the loud stuff for later in the morning,
tell people a day before, and actually enforce the noise rules.
Does anyone else have a site like this near them? Did complaining to anyone actually help?
