Our lane in Tolichowki has about thirty houses, and the garbage truck is supposed to come every
morning at seven. For six weeks now it has come maybe four days a week, and never
at the same time. On the days it skips, the bags pile up near the electric pole
at the corner. By evening the stray dogs have torn them open and the whole lane smells terrible.
Last Friday I called the municipal helpline and a very polite man took my name and the
lane number. Two hours later I got a message saying my complaint was resolved, but no truck had
come. I called again and the same polite man told me the complaint was already closed. He
said I could raise a new one, which I did, and that one was closed in forty minutes.
So now I take a photo of the pile every morning and send it on the lane's group
chat. Fourteen photos so far. Nobody has replied to most of them, but at least there is a record.
The sweeper woman who cleans our road told me the truck driver has two extra lanes added this
month. She did not know why, and she said the driver does not answer her calls either. My
neighbour two houses down has started burning the dry waste in a small drum behind his house. The
smoke comes straight into our kitchen window around eight, and my daughter has started coughing in the mornings.
I asked him politely to stop and he said the truck does not come, so what
else can he do. I had no good answer to that, and I still do not.
We are thinking of paying a private collector 150 rupees a month per house, but only twelve homes have
agreed. The rest feel they already pay property tax and should not have to pay twice for the same thing.
I see their point, but I also see the pile near the pole every single day.
Has anyone in a nearby area managed to get a real person at the corporation to answer?
