I walked along the Hussain Sagar lake front last month, a stretch I used to
visit often years ago. On one side the water edge seemed much further back than
I remembered it. I told myself it was the season. Lakes go up and down
with rainfall, everyone knows that. But when I looked closer there was construction debris and
a half built low wall where water used to reach. I mentioned it to an
uncle who has lived near there for decades. He nodded like he'd seen it before.
He said walls and buildings creeping towards the lake edge has happened in other spots over
the years. Sometimes it gets noticed and stopped. Sometimes it just becomes permanent before anyone official looks
closely. He wasn't sure if this stretch has a notice or case against it. I couldn't find
anything either. The hard part is I don't know where the proper lake boundary is meant
to be. All I can see is where the water happens to reach on one particular day.
Without that, I can't tell a wall that doesn't belong from normal seasonal change at the edge.
Still, this spot looked built up on purpose. A rough heap of bricks doesn't arrive with the rain.
Hussain Sagar already has enough trouble with pollution and cleaning. It would hurt to lose a bit
of edge too. It's such a visible, central place that you'd hope someone is watching it closely.
Does anyone know which office looks after the lake boundary, and how an ordinary resident can report
this? I took 3 photos and I'll go back next month with the same angle to compare.
