In the last year at least 4 new coaching centers have opened on the same road near LB Nagar. I
pass it on my way to work every day. They are in small shops or a floor of an old house.
Last week I walked past one during the evening batch, and the ground floor was packed with students.
They were sitting on plastic chairs right up to the entrance, and there was only one narrow door.
I stood there for a minute and kept thinking about that door. Just one way in and out.
Those buildings were made for a shop or a family, not for 100 young people at once. I
don't know if anyone checks the fire safety or the building before a coaching center opens. I'm not
saying any of these places is unsafe. I really don't know what's inside or what papers they have.
A relative of mine lives in another city and told me about fire accidents at coaching centers
there. He said it happened in buildings that were crowded and never meant for so many people.
I don't know the details, so I won't repeat names, but it's been in my head all week.
It made me look at those 4 centers differently, the way you look at a wire hanging loose.
Parents choose a center for the results and the fee. I did the same when my cousin joined one.
Nobody asked about the building or the exits, and I don't think the thought even came
up. Does anyone know who is supposed to inspect these places, and whether there is any
way to check? It would be good to know before the evening batch walks in tomorrow.
