The new flyover work near Uppal started a diversion about a month ago. Traffic now goes through a narrow
residential lane that was never made for this many vehicles. Every morning around 8:30 the lane is jammed from end
to end with cars and bikes. The diversion now adds 25 minutes to my ride to work, and I leave earlier each week.
The worst spot is the junction where the diverted traffic joins the main road again. There's no traffic police most mornings, so everyone
just squeezes in however they can. Yesterday I watched an auto and a school bus stare at each other for 2 full minutes.
Nobody moved until a scooter pushed through the gap and everything came loose at once. The people living on
that lane have it worse than me. Their quiet street is now a highway. There's dust all day and the
noise starts early. Some of them have put up handwritten signs. One sign says kids play here, please go slow.
Hardly anyone slows down, I noticed. A woman outside her house told me she wipes the window sill twice a
day now. I asked a supervisor at the site when it will be done and he said 6 to 8 months.
He said it the way you answer when you're tired of being asked the same question.
So we need a plan, because hoping it ends soon isn't going to work for us.
If anyone has got traffic police posted at a temporary diversion,
please tell me who you wrote to and how long it took.
