Got a message last week saying I crossed the speed limit on the Outer Ring Road.
I drive that stretch often and I was sure I was well under. I even remember looking at my meter.
I got a fine on the same stretch a few months back, so now I'm careful there.
I read later that they put up some new cameras on that section not long ago.
The notice has a time and a photo, which is more than I got from older fines. Good.
But the photo is so grainy that I can't read anything off it. I can barely see my own car.
So I just have to trust the number they gave me. There's no way to check it myself.
It's a bit like being told the answer and asked to believe it.
I paid it anyway. The amount wasn't big enough to run around offices for.
But it bothers me. A few people in a driving group I'm in say they got fines that looked odd too.
Nobody has found out if the cameras were set up properly or if it's just early days for them.
I also read in the news that more cameras are coming on other parts of the ORR.
I wonder if anyone has challenged one of these. Did it go anywhere, or did you give up?
My cousin says never bother for a small amount, just pay and move on. I'm not so sure now.
Next time I might ask a friend to sit in the car and film the meter.
Probably overkill, but I'd like some proof of my own the next time it happens.
