The Attapur junction is a mess in the evenings, mostly between 6 and 8. Everyone pushes
in from all sides at the same time and hopes the other person stops. I've seen 2
near misses this week alone. Yesterday an auto and a two wheeler almost hit each other. Both
drivers were trying to beat the same gap, and both gave each other a long look afterwards.
Auto drivers and bikers take the biggest risks, but it's not all their fault. Nobody knows who
has the right of way, because there's no signal and no sign either. Cars from the service
road nudge forward and wait for others to give in, and that's when it gets dicey. There's
also no proper zebra crossing, so people on foot just run across between the vehicles. Mornings are
bad too. Parents on two wheelers drop kids at school around 8 and the lane fills up.
I've seen a traffic cop posted there once or twice a week, and the difference is huge.
Vehicles stop and wait when someone is standing in the middle waving his hand. That tells
me a signal or a regular cop would help a lot more than any sign. This
junction connects 3 colonies, so a lot of people use it every day. A few of
us were talking about writing one joint request to the traffic police. Our single complaints didn't
get any reply, so maybe a joint one will carry more weight. If you have got
a signal approved at a junction like this, I would like to know how long it took.
