🚸 No speed breaker or crossing near a busy school gate in Dilsukhnagar

Traffic police handled a similar request near my son's school after a group of us submitted a joint letter with photos of the exact spot and timing of the rush. Took about two months, but they eventually painted a crossing and put up a caution board, though the actual speed breaker request apparently needed a separate approval from GHMC roads on top of that.

Noticed the same gap between government and private school safety measures near my own route too, not just in Dilsukhnagar. One government school close to my office has a constable posted every single morning, while a much bigger private school nearby has nothing besides a security guard waving cars along. Seems like schools handling their own safety arrangements informally rather than any actual civic policy.

Pass that same stretch most evenings on my bike and have had to brake hard more than once because a kid darted out from between parked autos. The lack of even a painted crossing genuinely surprised me the first time, given how much traffic that flyover ramp dumps onto the road right at pickup time every single afternoon without fail, rain or otherwise.

There is a private school near the main road in Dilsukhnagar where kids get dropped off and picked up right along a stretch that has zero speed breakers and no zebra crossing marked anywhere close to the gate. Traffic coming from the flyover side picks up real speed exactly at that point since the road opens up wide right there, and every single school day I watch parents and kids crossing between moving vehicles because there is no proper marked crossing to actually use. A few things I have noticed just from watching this stretch almost daily for close to two years now: 1) no marked crossing anywhere near the gate, so kids just cross wherever there is a small gap in traffic 2) vehicles coming straight off the flyover rarely slow down till they are almost at the gate itself 3) at least three genuinely close calls that I have personally seen, a bike swerving hard to avoid a kid who ran across, an auto braking so suddenly the passenger nearly went into the front seat Nothing has actually resulted in a serious accident as far as I know, at least not one I have personally witnessed, but it feels like only a matter of time given how consistently risky that stretch is every single afternoon. Compare that to a couple of government schools I pass on my regular route -> speed breaker, painted crossing, even a traffic constable during peak hours. This particular private school has none of that, not even a basic caution sign warning drivers a school is nearby. Strange how placement of these safety measures seems to depend on which specific school it is rather than any consistent rule for school zones in general. Not entirely sure whether this actually falls under traffic police, GHMC roads department, or the school itself to request something like this, and I suspect that confusion is a big part of why nothing has changed here in two years. If anyone has actually gotten a speed breaker or crossing added near a school through the right complaint channel, would really help to know who exactly you approached and what finally got it done.

Even a caution board alone rarely slows anyone down in my experience, drivers seem to tune those out completely after seeing a hundred of them everywhere. A physical speed breaker forces an actual reduction in speed regardless of whether someone is paying attention, which is probably why it should be the priority here over signage alone. Painted crossings help pedestrians know where to stand at least.

The joint letter idea Mastermobile mentioned sounds like the actual way forward here instead of individual complaints going nowhere separately. A single person reporting it probably just gets logged and forgotten, but a group with specific photos and timings seems harder to ignore. Might be worth someone actually organizing that for this particular stretch before an accident forces the issue instead.
