The same problem happens every month. At our ration shop near Dilsukhnagar, the line starts forming from
6-6:30 in the morning itself. Those who arrive late have to wait 2-3 hours. This is especially
difficult for senior citizens and daily-wage workers. Last week I saw an elderly aunty who stood in
the sun for almost two hours, she didn't even have a chair or shade to wait there.
A lot of people leave their work behind just to stand in this line, which for them
is a loss of a whole day's income. Can a token or slot-booking system not be introduced here?
People could get a number/token in the morning and come back at their turn's time, like it happens at
hospitals. This way the work could get done without continuously standing in line, and people could also manage the
rest of their day. Another simple solution is two counters, one for Aadhaar verification/entry and another for ration distribution.
This could make the process faster too, since right now everything happens at a single counter which becomes a bottleneck.
Do any ration shops in any area of Hyderabad already have a token
system or multiple counters running? If yes, what was the proper channel for implementing
it? Maybe we could also request it for our local shop and get things
like this standardised everywhere. Some shops already have a small notice board put
up with the approximate wait time written on it, it's a small step but
it adds a bit of transparency for people who want to plan their day.
