The pothole outside our gate in Attapur has been patched three times this year and it keeps coming back exactly where it was before,
like it is mocking the entire street. The first patch was in February,
right after two of my neighbor's two wheelers hit it in the same week and one of them needed a new rim.
GHMC sent a crew, they poured the mix, flattened it with a hand roller, and for about six weeks it held.
Then the pre monsoon rain came in May and the same spot caved in again,
this time slightly wider than before, like the road just remembered where it wanted to break.
Second patch, same crew as far as I could tell, same rough job, gravel poking out within days.
My father in law started keeping a small photo log on his phone every time it reopened,
mostly out of stubbornness at this point, not because he thought anyone would look at it.
Third patch happened last week after a garbage truck axle got stuck trying to avoid it
and blocked the lane for forty minutes during evening traffic. Half the colony was standing around watching,
a few people filming it on their phones,
one uncle loudly explaining to nobody in particular that this exact thing happened in 2019 too.
Nobody from the ward office has come to actually look at what is underneath that spot,
whether there is a broken pipe or just bad base material from whenever the road was last laid properly.
We keep calling the helpline number painted on the divider nearby and keep getting told it has been noted.
It has been noted three times now and the hole is still going to come back a fourth time,
probably right after the next good rain. My father in law wants to send his whole photo log to the corporator's office next election season,
all four patches, dated. I told him nobody there will care either, but at least the pictures exist somewhere now.
