The road right behind Charminar has been dark for almost a week now. I walk there most
evenings. My cousin who stays nearby has started taking the main road, even though it adds 10 minutes.
She told me she doesn't feel safe on that stretch after dark, especially with the lane so
empty. Students coming back from evening classes and women coming from work use it too, so it
matters. Yesterday I walked past on purpose to look. At least 3 poles had burnt out fittings.
One had a wire hanging loose near the bottom. That looks like a separate danger on its own.
With the monsoon still around, I didn't want to stand near it long. A kid could touch that.
So it probably needs real repair work, not someone flicking a switch back on. Shopkeepers
there are complaining too. People avoid dark lanes even when it's the shorter way home.
A tea stall owner told me his customers have dropped after sunset compared to a few weeks
ago. He's right. The whole area feels emptier once it gets dark, and even the dogs seem restless.
Everyone assumes someone else has already reported it, so nobody does. I'm guilty of that too.
I tried the GHMC complaint portal but couldn't tell whether streetlights go through the same system.
Roads and garbage are there, but streetlights might be a separate electrical department. Does anyone know the
right office for streetlight repairs in this zone, or if they gave you a timeline? A few
of us are thinking of chipping in for a temporary solar light until the proper fix comes.
