🖱️ Finally set up dual monitors for work, wish I knew about the cable mess beforehand

Finally got around to setting up a second monitor for my work from home setup last weekend, something I had been meaning to do for months after constantly switching between windows on a single screen during video calls while also trying to reference documents at the same time. The actual monitor itself was the easy part to figure out, it was everything else around getting both screens actually working together properly that turned into a bigger project than I expected going into it. My laptop only had one usable video output port besides the one already being used for charging, which meant I needed a specific dock or adapter to actually drive two external displays simultaneously rather than just plugging the second monitor in directly the way I had naively assumed would work based on how the first one connected easily enough on its own. Ended up making two separate trips to a shop near Ameerpet after buying the wrong adapter the first time, apparently there are several different standards depending on the exact laptop port type and what the monitor itself supports on its input side, and getting that specific combination wrong meant the second monitor showed nothing at all despite technically being plugged in and powered on correctly. Once the right adapter was actually in place though, the difference in daily workflow has been genuinely noticeable, video calls on one screen while keeping documents or spreadsheets open on the other feels like such an obvious improvement that I am honestly annoyed at myself for putting this off as long as I did purely because the initial setup seemed more complicated than it needed to be. Cable management under the desk is still admittedly a mess right now, several cables running to different spots without much organization, something I am planning to actually sort out properly this coming weekend with some basic cable clips. Anyone have actual recommendations for keeping a dual monitor desk setup cable situation clean without spending too much on elaborate cable management products specifically? Would help to know what has actually worked for other people's home setups here.
