Last Saturday I set up a second monitor for working from home. I'd been putting it off for
months. My video calls and my documents were on the same screen. I was switching windows all day.
Buying the monitor was the easy part. A friend recommended one, I paid, and carried it home on
my lap. I plugged it in expecting to be done in 5 minutes. The screen stayed black. My
laptop has only 1 port that can send video, and the charger already uses it. So the second
monitor can't just plug in like the first one did. You need a dock or a proper adapter.
I went to a shop in Ameerpet and bought an adapter. It was the wrong type for my
port. Next day I went back and the guy there looked at my laptop for 5 seconds and
sold me a different one. That one worked. The second screen came on and I just sat there
smiling like a fool. Calls on the left, spreadsheets on the right. I'm annoyed at myself for waiting
this long. The 2 trips cost me about 3 hours and 2 plates of biryani eaten out of
frustration. My brother looked at the desk afterwards and said, nice, but what is going on under it?
Under the desk it's a mess. 6 cables going in 4 directions, and the laptop
charger hangs by its own weight. I want to sort it this weekend, but I
don't want to spend much on fancy cable stuff. I've seen cable clips, sleeves and
velcro ties. Do any of those last, or do they all come loose in a
month? If you have a cheap setup that stays neat, please tell me what you used.
