Last Sunday my cousins were over and someone said, let's do a quiz about mobile
phones. I'm the phone person in the family, so everyone expected me to win easily.
I wrote 20 questions on a notepad, about old phones, ringtones, networks and who made what.
My younger cousin kept the score on the back of a pizza box. I lost
badly. My uncle got the question about the first ever smartphone right in 2 seconds.
He said he'd read it in a magazine at a barber shop about 20 years
ago. Then I got stuck on a question I'd written myself. I forgot my own answer.
Everyone laughed for about 5 minutes and my cousin took a photo of my face. The funny part
was the old phone round. A 12 year old had never held a phone with buttons. She asked
how you were supposed to type a message. My uncle took out his old one to show her.
She tried to swipe the screen and nothing happened. Then she handed it back like it
was broken. Everyone went quiet for a second, then my uncle said, welcome to 2005. We
played until 11 at night and nobody checked their phone once, which might be a record.
Someone asked to do it again next month with harder questions and a small prize. I've got
ideas for the next one now, like guess the ringtone and guess the phone from a photo.
Has anyone done a quiz like this with friends? Which questions worked and which ones fell flat?
