I saw an ad for the new Redmi 17 5G yesterday. It talked almost only about
the battery size. Nothing about the camera. That told me what Redmi thinks budget buyers care about.
They might be right. My current phone needs a charge by 4 in the afternoon if I
use maps. I've been carrying a power bank for 2 years and it's the most annoying thing
in my bag. So would I pick a phone with a huge battery over a better camera?
For a main phone, I'm not sure. I take photos of food and family, nothing fancy.
But bad photos at a wedding hurt in a way a dead phone doesn't. A dead
phone you can fix with a charger. A blurry photo of your cousin's engagement is gone forever.
For a second phone or a backup, I'd take the big battery without thinking. I don't
trust battery claims on the box anyway. Lab numbers and my pocket are 2 different worlds.
I'd wait for a few reviewers to use it for a week and tell us how many
days it lasts. If it really goes 2 days on a charge, I'd change my habits and
stop charging every night. Right now I plug in at night without thinking, like brushing my teeth.
My uncle just buys whatever phone the shopkeeper recommends and keeps it for 5 years. His battery is
bad now, but he doesn't care because he only makes calls. So what's your order, battery, camera or speed?
Pick one and tell me why. I'll go first, camera, then battery, then speed, and I know that's a weird order.
