Wifi signal from the router downstairs barely makes it to the top floor of our house, by the time it reaches my room the speed drops so low that even basic browsing feels laggy, forget about actually streaming anything or joining a work call up there without constant buffering. Been dealing with this for almost a year now, mostly just avoiding using devices upstairs during the day and saving anything data heavy for when I am actually downstairs near the router itself.
Looked into a mesh system a few times online, the general idea makes sense, multiple nodes spread across the house all talking to each other instead of relying on one single router trying to cover everything, but the price range for a decent three node setup is honestly higher than I expected, especially compared to what I originally paid for the router itself a few years back.
Tried a cheaper workaround first, bought a basic wifi extender plug that promised to boost the signal upstairs, but it ended up creating its own separate network name that devices had to manually switch to, and the actual speed boost was minimal at best, felt like I mostly just wasted that money instead of solving anything.
Talked to a shop owner near Ameerpet who sells networking equipment, he suggested a specific mesh brand that apparently handles Indian household layouts reasonably well according to him, though I am obviously taking that recommendation with a grain of salt since he is also trying to sell me something. Still have not pulled the trigger on actually buying it yet, mostly hesitating over the price versus just continuing to live with weaker signal upstairs since it is not a daily dealbreaker, just a consistent annoyance.
Has anyone actually set up a mesh system in a similar multi floor house here, and did it genuinely solve the coverage problem the way it is supposed to on paper? Curious whether the price difference over a basic extender actually felt worth it once you were using it day to day.
