I rewatched an old Telugu film last Sunday with my cousin, who had never
seen it. I'd forgotten how little the guy playing the hero's friend is on screen.
Maybe 20 minutes in total, if that. My cousin timed one stretch on her phone.
And still he's the one I remembered, not the hero. I'd have told you the
opposite. There's a scene near the end where he sits on a cot and says
nothing for a minute. The hero is shouting in the background, crying, doing the big thing.
You still watch the friend. His face goes through about 3 different thoughts. I paused it
and made my cousin look. She said, okay, that's good, and then asked if we could carry
on because she wanted the fight. Nobody gave him anything for it, as far as I know.
No award talk, no big interview. I looked him up after and couldn't find
much about him at all. That bothered me more than it should. I think people
remember the biggest role because it's easy. The small one needs you to pay attention.
My friend said the film worked because of the hero. I didn't argue, I just sent him the
clip. Not naming the film yet. I want to see if anyone picks the same actor before I
say. Think of a supporting actor you still remember, even if you forgot the name of the film.
Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, anything works. Mine is going to look obvious once I
tell you. I'll post the name here in a couple of days, promise.
