Work was bad for about 3 weeks, so I started watching one film every night after dinner.
No scrolling, phone in the other room, lights off. My mother thinks I've lost my mind.
I'm on film number 11 now. Some new, some so old my father had to explain who the actors were.
It's the first time in months that I look forward to the evening.
The old ones are slow. First 20 minutes of one black and white film, I almost switched off.
Then a scene in a railway station happened and I sat up. Nobody rushed it, nothing was explained.
Newer films tell you what to feel every 5 minutes, with the music pushing you along.
The old ones just let a person stand there and you work it out yourself.
Not everything works. I tried a famous one last week and fell asleep at the interval.
My brother says that's normal and I should have watched it in the afternoon.
I also rewatched a comedy from my college days and it was worse than I remembered.
Some jokes I'd quoted for years turned out to be 1 joke, said in 4 different ways.
So here's my ask. Tell me what you watched lately, old or new, any language with subtitles.
I'd love something small that nobody around me has heard of. I don't mind hunting for it.
Last 3 I liked were all recommended by people at work, not by any app.
Apps keep showing me the same 6 films. I'm tired of them.
