🎟️ First day first show experience at Sudarshan 35MM, still unmatched

Went for a first day first show at Sudarshan 35MM a couple of weekends back for a big release, first time doing that specific theatre in years since I had mostly shifted to newer multiplexes closer to home, and honestly the whole experience reminded me why that particular theatre still has such a specific reputation among people who grew up watching movies there. The energy in that hall during a first show is genuinely unlike anything I have experienced at a newer multiplex, whistles the moment the hero's name appears in the credits, people standing up during the interval just to clap along with the crowd's excitement rather than actually going anywhere, someone a few rows behind literally throwing flower petals during a big entry scene which I have honestly not seen happen anywhere else in years. Seating itself is nowhere close to as comfortable as the newer multiplex chairs I had gotten used to, and the sound system, while loud, does not have the same crisp clarity that a modern digital setup gives you, but somehow none of that actually mattered once the movie started and the crowd's energy took over the entire hall completely. Talked to an older uncle in the queue beforehand who mentioned he has been coming to that exact same theatre for first day shows since the eighties, said the crowd energy has actually stayed remarkably consistent across decades even as everything else around the theatre itself has changed quite a bit over that same stretch of time. Not saying newer multiplexes do not have their own advantages, comfort and sound quality being the obvious ones, but there is genuinely something about that specific old school theatre experience that a shiny new multiplex just cannot fully replicate no matter how good the actual seats are. Anyone else still make a point of catching first day shows at one of these older single screen theatres specifically, or has that mostly faded out for most people here at this point? Curious if any other theatre in the city still has that same kind of crowd energy.

Took a younger cousin to a similar first day show recently, and she was genuinely confused by people whistling and standing up during scenes, said it felt chaotic compared to the quiet multiplex crowds she is used to. Made me realize this specific theatre culture might actually die out naturally within a generation if younger audiences mostly grow up only knowing the newer multiplex etiquette instead.

Used to be a regular at a specific single screen near my old house growing up, it shut down a few years back and turned into a shopping complex, and honestly nothing at any multiplex since has quite matched that specific crowd energy you are describing. Feels like this exact experience is slowly becoming something only a handful of surviving theatres can still actually offer people.

The flower petals detail genuinely made me laugh, seen exactly that happen once during a big star entry years ago and completely forgot about it until reading this. Multiplexes have started cracking down on that kind of thing lately though, security actually stops people bringing garlands or petals in now at a few of the newer places near me, which honestly takes something away from the whole experience.

Sangeet in Ramnagar gives me the exact same feeling whenever I catch a first show there, the crowd genuinely becomes part of the film in a way no multiplex audience ever does, everyone reacting together at the same beats like it is rehearsed. Seats are genuinely rough on the back after three hours though, that part I will not defend at all.
