I've been in Riyadh for years and I already own a flat in Hyderabad. Now
I want to buy a second property. The first time my family handled everything for me.
This time I want to understand the process myself. That's where I got lost. Every person
I ask gives a different answer, and everyone sounds very sure. I don't want to quote
rules I've only half heard, so I'm asking the real questions here instead. First, payment. Is
it better to pay from an NRE or NRO account, or does a normal Indian account work?
And if I sell later and want the money back in Riyadh, is that simple or a long
process? Second, tax. I keep hearing about TDS but nobody can explain it without using 10 confusing words.
I'll talk to a CA, of course. But I'd like to know what to ask before I pay for
the meeting. Third, the papers. With my flat my cousin used a power of attorney to sign for me.
This time I'd like to know how that gets done properly. Who prepares it, who checks
it, where it's registered. I also read that you should check the title, the builder's papers
and the encumbrance certificate. But how does someone sitting in Riyadh really check any of it?
Photos and videos prove very little. There's also the land question. People say agricultural land and farmhouses
are treated differently for NRIs. I don't know if that's right, and I won't guess. I'd just
like to avoid a nasty surprise. If you bought in Hyderabad recently from abroad, how was it?
What was the hardest part? And what's the one thing you'd check
first if you were buying again? That's the answer I need most.
