This Saturday I have decided to finally sort the drawer under my TV where all the old chargers and cables live. I opened it last night just to find one micro USB cable and ended up standing there for twenty minutes. There are seven chargers in it. I counted. Two of them belong to phones I sold in 2019, one belongs to a camera my brother broke, and one I cannot match to anything at all, it has a round pin that looks like it came from a shaving machine. There is also a tangle of wired earphones, some with only one side working, and I felt strangely guilty about throwing any of them out because my mother kept every wire from every gadget we ever owned in a biscuit tin and I think I inherited that. My plan is to put everything on the bed, test each cable with the one phone I still have, and bin whatever fails. I will keep two good chargers, one fast and one slow, and a single box for the rest. I have bought a small 60 rupee organiser from a stationery shop in Abids for this, and I am a bit proud of that. The part I worry about is the round pin one, because as soon as I throw it away I know that exact device will show up at my door asking for power. Last time that happened with a camera battery I had binned in a fit of cleaning, and I spent 400 rupees on a replacement. So I will probably keep it in a bag with a label that says unknown. That is basically my whole Saturday, along with a plate of mirchi bajji if the rain holds up. Not much of a plan, but it feels like one.
