Somewhere around February this year, mostly out of sheer boredom during a particularly slow work week rather than any grand plan or resolution behind it, I started keeping a small physical notebook specifically for writing down one single sentence about the actual day before going to sleep each night, nothing elaborate, just one line capturing whatever felt most worth remembering about that particular day at the time.
What genuinely surprised me is that this specific habit has actually stuck for almost eight months now without me deliberately forcing myself to continue it the way most habits I have tried starting over the years eventually fizzle out after just a few weeks once the initial novelty and motivation wears off completely. Going back through a few months of entries recently was oddly satisfying in a way I did not fully expect beforehand, small specific details I would have otherwise genuinely forgotten completely by now, an odd conversation with a stranger, a particular meal that turned out unexpectedly good, things too minor individually to remember on their own without this specific record actually existing somewhere.
I do not really share these entries with anyone, it is purely for myself, which honestly might be part of why it has actually lasted this long compared to other things I have tried before, no pressure attached to it, no audience expecting anything consistent from me regarding it either.
A friend I mentioned this habit to recently started her own version almost immediately after hearing about mine, though hers is apparently focused specifically on gratitude rather than just general daily events the way my own entries tend to be structured most nights.
What is one small habit, however minor it might genuinely seem described out loud like this, that you actually picked up sometime this year and found has actually stuck longer than you originally expected it to when you first started doing it?
