This story is about a man in Dammam. An AC technician,
I'll call him Arif. 4 kids, a good shop, a wife who cooked every night. After
dinner he'd sit on the sofa with his phone, scrolling Facebook till the house went quiet.
That's where he met a divorced woman. Daily chats, then long calls, then talk of marriage.
He told his wife he was flying to India to sell a plot of land. She
was happy for him. He took 15 days off, never touched the plot and married the woman.
Back in Dammam he rented a flat 1 km from his house and arranged her visit
visa. He'd say he had work in Jeddah, vanish for 2 days, and come home as normal.
It lasted months. One Friday he took the second wife to the religious talk at the
mosque. Some ladies there knew his first wife. They asked the new woman about her husband.
Days later a friend's wife saw Arif at dinner with a woman who wasn't his wife.
The friend asked him straight. Arif went pale and said, I married again, please don't tell anyone.
By morning every lady in that group knew. His first wife heard before the next Friday. 15
days of crying and shouting in front of the kids. Then she locked the door on him.
The second wife did the same at her flat. He ended up sitting on the stairs at 1
am. The imam of that mosque lived upstairs. He asked, son, what are you doing here at this hour?
Arif told him everything. The imam said send her back to India, go home and repent. She
agreed only for 10 lakh rupees. He borrowed it from friends and relatives and sent her off.
His wife took him back for the kids, who understood everything. The debt took years. I
keep thinking of what the imam told him, a man who travels in two boats goes nowhere.
