After my marriage we had a baby boy, and two years later a baby girl. We were all very happy.
I was living with my mother in the new city side of Hyderabad. My wife's family was in the Old City, and I was working in the medical department.
When my daughter was 16 months old, she started having trouble breathing. I took her to Niloufer Hospital.
The doctors said it was asthma. Her condition was very bad, so they kept her for 3 days, and my wife and I stayed with her the whole time.
Around then I was trying for a work visa for Saudi. After some days it came through, and I was so happy.
I only had to send it for endorsement, and within 15 days I would leave.
On 16 November 2011, around 7 in the evening, my mother died suddenly. It was a huge shock.
The visa came back endorsed on 21 November. My ticket was booked for the 26th.
On the 24th, around 11 at night, my daughter was admitted to Niloufer again. My wife and I were with her. Packing was the last thing on my mind.
That night I sat beside her and asked her twice, "How are you feeling, my princess?" Both times she said, "I am fine."
I had no idea. She died at 1 in the morning. I still can't forget that moment.
It was so late that we couldn't find anyone to dig her grave. So one of my relatives and I dug it ourselves.
It took 2 hours. We buried her and got home around 6 in the morning.
My flight to Riyadh was the next day. My wife couldn't stop crying, and I decided to cancel.
My cousin forced me to go. He said, "She is gone. Staying will not bring her back. Don't miss this chance."
So I went.
Even now, when those days come back to me, I get upset. It was the hardest decision of my life.
If my cousin hadn't pushed me that day, I don't know where I would be now.
