I work in Riyadh and I've decided to finally learn programming in the evenings
after work. I'm coming home to Hyderabad in March, so I'll
buy the laptop there. Prices in Saudi are higher for what you get, and
my cousin says SD Road has better deals. My budget is 45,000 rupees. I
can stretch to 50,000 if somebody gives me a good reason. Right now I
only have my phone and an old office desktop that I can't install anything on.
I tried a free Python course on my phone for 2 weeks. Typing code on that
screen was misery. I'm not a gamer. I don't edit videos. I just want to write
code and keep Chrome open. And Chrome is never 1 tab. It's 20 tabs, 4 of
them YouTube tutorials that I never close. My nephew said get 16GB or you'll regret it.
A friend said 8GB is fine for beginners. Another friend told me to buy a
refurbished ThinkPad and skip the new ones completely. I don't know who to believe, and
the shop guys all just push whatever they have in stock. One shop in Riyadh
quoted me 3 times the price for the same model. I laughed and walked out.
Does a refurbished laptop come with any warranty in Hyderabad? Is it safe to buy one from
a shop? Should I worry about the screen size, since I'll be staring at it for hours
every night? I'd also like to know what to check in the shop before paying, besides the keyboard.
I'll take any model names you can give me, even boring ones.
