I was clearing out a backup folder on my laptop last week and found a folder of old cricket photos.
Mostly screenshots from over the years. One was from a Boxing Day Test at the MCG.
A fast bowler in his run up, the batter waiting, and a huge crowd behind both of them.
I sat there for 20 minutes and forgot what I'd opened the folder for.
There's a stillness in Test cricket just before a delivery that you don't get in T20. People wait.
The crowd holds its breath a few seconds longer. In the shorter game someone's already shouting.
I've never been to a Boxing Day Test. I've only watched it on TV at odd hours, wrapped in a blanket.
But that photo made me remember whole sessions, and I could almost hear the commentary.
The rest of the folder was a mess. Blurry shots of TV screens, a scorecard I'd photographed in 2014.
One was my dad's old radio with a handwritten note stuck to it that said do not touch.
I'd forgotten I even took that. It brought back summer evenings with him and a cricket commentary on low volume.
The photo isn't great, but it did its job and I'm keeping it.
So my question is simple. What's your favourite Test match memory?
It doesn't have to be a famous one. Mine's not even a famous match.
Sometimes the personal ones matter more, like watching with one person at one point in your life.
Tell me about yours, and who you were sitting with that day.
