📼 Anyone else still thinks the original Ramayan serial from the 80s was better

Watched a few episodes of a newer adaptation with my nephew last week purely because he was curious about it after hearing me mention the original version a few times casually in passing over the years, and it made me go back and rewatch a couple of specific episodes of the original 80s serial myself just to properly compare the two versions side by side directly. The newer version obviously has considerably better production value, sharper visuals, more elaborate sets and costumes that the original simply could not technically achieve with the specific budget and technology genuinely available at the time it was actually made decades ago. But something about the pacing and the specific, deliberate emotional weight given to certain scenes in the original still feels considerably more effective to me personally, even watching it again now with a more critical adult eye than I originally had as a kid. My nephew, to his credit, actually sat through both versions patiently and gave a genuinely fair, balanced assessment afterward, saying the newer one felt faster and more visually engaging to him specifically, while the older one felt slower but somehow more genuinely sincere in how certain key moments were actually portrayed and performed by the original cast. Part of this is obviously nostalgia coloring my own judgment here, I do recognize that honestly, entire streets used to genuinely empty out during the original broadcast timing decades ago, and that specific shared cultural experience itself probably shapes how fondly I remember the actual show content now looking back on it. Still, there is something about the specific sincerity and unhurried pacing of that original version that feels genuinely difficult to properly recreate today, regardless of how much money or technical skill gets thrown at any newer adaptation attempted since then. Does anyone else feel similarly about it, or is this genuinely just pure nostalgia talking rather than any real, objective difference in actual quality between the two versions?

My grandmother refuses to watch any newer version, says the original cast simply understood the material differently, not necessarily better acting, just a different kind of sincerity that apparently does not translate the same way onto a newer production regardless of budget. She has tried exactly twice with newer adaptations and switched it off both times within the first ten minutes.
