A few nights ago I was scrolling Netflix after dinner with no plan at all.
I clicked on a show for one reason. The poster looked cool. Dark blue, one face
half lit. I didn't read the description or check any reviews, which is not like me.
I usually spend 20 minutes reading about a show before I give it even 5 minutes.
It turned out to be really good. I'd have skipped it if I'd read the description first.
The 2 line summary made it sound boring. A slow story about a family and a house.
The show was nothing like that. It had a tense feeling in every scene
that the summary missed. I finished 4 episodes that night and went to bed at
2. Now I'm wondering how many good shows I've passed because of an ugly poster.
Some of those pictures look like they were made in 10 minutes on somebody's old phone.
And how many boring shows have I clicked because they looked fancy? A colleague told me
she picks like this all the time and gets it right about 7 times in 10.
I thought she was joking when she said it. Now I think she might know
something that I don't. I'm going to try it again this weekend and be strict
with myself, poster only, no reading at all. I'll stop after 15 minutes if it's bad.
That's my rule and I'm sticking to it this time. Tell me
about the best thing you ever watched only because of how it looked.
