There is a genuinely widely praised show that seems to come up constantly in nearly every single online discussion about great television, universally recommended, near universally loved by basically everyone I actually know personally who has watched it themselves, and I have tried starting it on three genuinely separate occasions now without ever actually making it past the third episode either time.
It is not that I can identify anything specifically wrong with it exactly, the production quality is clearly excellent, the performances all seem genuinely strong throughout, but something about the actual pacing or the particular tone of it just never manages to properly hook me the way it clearly and consistently hooks nearly everyone else who ever actually mentions it themselves.
Mentioned this specific struggle to a close friend who is a genuine, dedicated fan of the show, and she seemed genuinely baffled by my reaction, insisting I simply have not given it enough real, sustained time yet to actually properly click, and that the specific show apparently gets meaningfully better after a certain point that I have apparently just never quite reached myself in any of my three separate attempts so far.
Part of me wonders if there is some social pressure genuinely involved here too, when literally everyone around you seems to love something this consistently, it becomes almost more socially awkward to just openly admit you simply do not personally enjoy it, compared to a more genuinely niche show that fewer actual people have even seen or have any real strong opinion about either way.
I have mostly stopped actively trying to force myself through it at this point, accepting that maybe this particular one genuinely just is not for me specifically, despite its clearly broad and genuine widespread appeal to nearly everyone else who has actually watched it themselves properly.
What is a genuinely widely loved show that you personally just could not get into yourself, and did you eventually manage to actually push through and genuinely enjoy it later, or did you simply accept it was not for you the way I honestly seem to be doing myself now?
